A Poem By One Of Our Foodbank Clients…

15th July 2019

One of our foodbank clients sent us this lovely poem after he had to visit us

This was his message…

Hello and a heartfelt thank you
Within the last week my wife and I have accessed your support for the first time. your team were all friendly and welcoming, this helped put us at ease. We felt various difficult emotions as we walked up to your building, something I fear many others have also experienced. Your team offered us compassion and made us feel valued. Your generosity has made a meaningful improvement for us. I have written a poem below about our experience, that I hope you may like.

Many many thanks

Food bank
Dried pasta, chopped tomatoes and a tin of tomato soup
a tin of hot dogs and an onion joins the group
cook it up right, and mix it all together
serve it out hot in a cold chilly weather
steaming hot food made with generous love
helping up people, who are climbing above
rise above hunger, hopelessness and shame
free us from feeling like we have lost the game
you see this food was free, but non of it I stole
I was issued a voucher when I told a caring soul
they gave me a note that gave us 3 days nutrition
support and understanding was the charities mission
we were so nervous that when we went inside
it was so hard to talk and we wanted to hide
hide from the shame of asking for food
a sickening feeling that brewed and brewed
churning my stomach and hurting my head
my wife’s eyes locked down to the ground
hating the situation, her confidence downed
the volunteers soft voice and her friendly face
slowly she guided us out of that place
gave us comfort and we felt respected
a drink and a biscuit with empathy inflected
offers of support gifted us some hope
we are being offered a rescue rope
they lifted us up as much as they can
its now up to us, to improve our plan
work out a method to earn more cash
so we can rebuild and restock our stash
plus get things for others when they are in need
we want to return the gift of good deed
but that’s a while off, we might need to come back
for some more food as we’re not quite on track
waiting till payday, still a fortnight
we are running quite low, its gonna be tight
next time we visit we have much less to fear
our experience showed us, that it is clear
the people inside are as nice as can be
also they offer a nice cup of tea
